I know most of the people who read this have already seen this glorious movie, but I figured I'd offer up a little post about it anyway, especially since I have recently decided that it is my favorite movie of all time. The movie is The Boondock Saints. Some of you may not have heard about The Boondock Saints because it has really just developed as a cult phenomenon. You see the director was sort of a dumbass and he pissed off the studio execs and so the movie only got released on like 4 screens nationwide. They then mounted a campaign through blockbuster when it came out on DVD and it has slowly spread to people via word of mouth.
The Boondock Saints is the story of two Irish brothers living in Boston who become disgusted with the way criminals are treated in society. This quote sums it up pretty well. "These decent men with loving families, they go home every day after work and turn on the news and you know what they see? They see rapists and murderers and child molestors and they're all getting' out of jail. 'Mafiosos,' getting' caught with 20 kilos, getting' out on bail. Same fucking day. And everyone, everywhere thinks the same thing: that someone should just go kill those mother fuckers. Kill 'em all. Admit it, even you've thought about it." So basically they start going on a vigilantic rampage throughout Boston.
Meanwhile, Willem Dafoe plays a Agent Smecker who is investigating these crimes and trying to find the killers. His scenes where he is coming up with his theory as to what occured at various crime scenes are absolutely steller. This movie really makes me appreciate Dafoe's ability as an actor.
All in all, this movie is totally sweet, especially if you're irish.
And so it is
Just like you said it would be
Life goes easy on me
Most of the time
And so it is
The shorter story
No love, no glory
No hero in her sky

Murphy: We're sorta like 7-11. We're not always doin' business, but we're always open.
